Sanderson fabrics & Sanderson wallpaper

Sanderson fabrics and wallpapers are iconic. The Sanderson brand is very important to Cumbrian retailer and Sanderson supplier John Young of Keswick. John Young stocks fabrics, wallpapers and paints and an extensive range of Sanderson wallpaper and fabric pattern books.

Sanderson is a British brand that has stood the test of time and is British design at its best. Sanderson is a sign of quality, and detail. Renowned for florals they offer so much more. It is a brand people trust. The design is in the detail which is painstakingly hand created.

The company is one of the oldest fabric suppliers in the world, made famous by their explosive botanicals and delicately detailed floral patterns which pushed the heritage boundaries for years.

Never going out of fashion, Sanderson fabrics and wallpapers have a quintessential Britishness about them, which has made them such a success for Arthur Sanderson who, in 1860, establish a business to meet the rising demand for high-quality decorative wallcoverings. At 24 Upper Street, Islington, he initially imported luxury French wallpapers, becoming one of the leading wallcoverings merchants in Britain. The company now owns and designs an impressive archive of designs.

The Elysian Range – tells a country story

A number of Lake District holiday homes and accommodation providers love this range because it brings the landscape indoors. The inspiration for this design is obvious,  ancient woodlands, native wildlife and gorgeous, often rare plants. This Sanderson range has a country style that combines a feeling of lakes and fells, remote landscapes, peace, and tranquillity – perfect for relaxing.

As you would expect, the wallpapers are elegant hand-drawn pieces of art that incorporate some of nature’s iconic wildlife like owls, monarch-like deer and free-flowing geese. These Sanderson wallpapers certainly capture the beauty of the natural world.

The colours are subtle, yet sumptuous in tones of Mulberry, Forest and Indigo, but they also include metallic highlights that will give your walls that little something extra.

Of course, the range also has coordinating fabrics – and paints that will help complete the look for your room. We often find customers with lots of holiday accommodation take a theme such as country and work it across several rooms, picking out different co-ordinates and tones to ring small changes.

Arboretum

Arboretum designs are beautifully hand painted. Launched in 2023 the focus of this design is naturally woodland based, but it is also created from sustainable, traceable sources too.

“CELEBRATING THE WONDER OF ENGLAND’S COUNTRYSIDE, ANCIENT WOODLANDS AND PROTECTED WILDLIFE.”

Describing the designs, Sanderson’s said Highlighting the decline of their natural habitat, frogs, woodpeckers and goldfinches find their home amongst intricate paintings of nodding bluebells, springtime primrose, wild dogrose, and age old sycamore and oak trees.”

The Arboretum fabrics spotlight on environmental issues, while celebrating the beauty of the English countryside. They are available in 12 statement patterns across 6 colourways.

The wallpapers also connect closely with nature and are all printed in the UK on FSC-certified substrates. These Sanderson wallpapers come in a selection of 1 original and archived designs that remind you of the English countryside.

At John Young’s, ‘Woodland Chorus’ is a perennial favourite. Inspired by 18th-century paintings of plants and animals, it features some of Britain’s iconic birds. With the introduction of 2 contemporary new colourways in 2023, John Young’s expects it to be as popular as ever.

Printed in the UK on FSC certified substrates, Arboretum wallpapers offer a recipe for positivity and the opportunity to reconnect with nature. A selection of 11 original and archive designs, each with a quintessentially English feel, remind us of the countryside’s restorative powers.
